Good God, I Needed You

I’ve been a fixer upper

All of my life.

First my Grandmother-

“You’d be smarter if…”

Next my Mother-

“You’d be so pretty if…”

To my horror my lovers-

“You’d be sexier if…”

My life partners-

“I could really love you if…”

You love me shadows and all. No conditions. You kiss my scars and honor them as hard fought battle wounds. You illuminate the dark places and enjoy that which already shines through.

You find the pieces of you echoing in me and I find pieces of me echoing in you, and I think we are both shocked each time it happens.

My sweetest friend.

Thank you.
